American Studies 2007

The U.S. in a Global Community 

U.S. Embassy Fachleiter Conference/American Studies Seminar
Bonn, May 17-21, 2007
In cooperation with the Amerikazentrum Hamburg and the Gustav-Stresemann-Institut e.V. Bonn

The annual American Studies Seminar provides up-to-date information on American society and values to secondary school teachers from all German states, in particular multipliers in the field of English and the Social Sciences, 'Fachberater' and 'Fachleiter', secondary school curriculum planners, representatives of ministries of education, textbook writers, and educators. The conference atmosphere is one of intense exchange with American specialists in interdisciplinary aspects of politics, economics, and American studies. Lectures and discussions will be in English.

This year’s seminar will explore the role the United States plays in a global context. We will look closely at economic, environmental, political and cultural developments in the U.S, and how they affect other countries.. We will also take a look at how globalization affects U.S. foreign and domestic policy.

Michael M. Gunter, Jr, Professor of Political Science, Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida
Jeremy D. Mayer , Associate Professor of Public Policy and Program
Director for Master’s in Public Policy, George Mason School of Public Policy, Washington
Richard Pells, Professor of History, University of Texas, Austin
Reza Aslan, internationally acclaimed writer and scholar.

Costs
The U.S. Embassy covers all program and partial room and board expenses. Registered participants will be expected to cover travel expenses and a conference fee of EUR 110 (guests for the day: EUR 60)

Unfortunately, there are more applicants than space available. Applicants will be notified by early April. Please do not make any travel arrangements before you hear from us.
