Aquarium 1851/2007
Time-based work “Aquarium 1851/2007” was very much a collaborative endeavor. With undersea footage contributed by filmmaker Chad Roberts, narration by Rollins alumna Peg O’ Keef, this video piece brings multiple talents to bear on our complex and ever-changing cultural and personal relationships with the ocean. Using passages from Moby-Dick and the 2007 International Panel on Climate Change report, the video seeks to illuminate how we are romanced, compelled and continually amazed by the ocean. And yet we are, at our very core, fearful of it because it represents the greatest unknown, unexplored expanse on our planet and one of the most destructive forces of nature. As scientists warn us about rising seas, killer hurricanes and floods brought on by climate change, how will our relationship with the ocean develop over the next fifty years?
