More About Me

The three women in my life: Rebekah, Kathryn, and Julia.

Outside of Rollins College, I have a number of interests, the most important one being my family. My first child, Kathryn Marie, was born in Annapolis, Maryland on July 10, 2001, just three weeks before we moved to Portland, Oregon. Our second daughter, Julia Nicole, was born on April 26, 2004 in the guest bedroom of our first house which we had moved into just two months earlier. My wife Rebekah and I have been married since 1997. I also have a close extended family, including my maternal grandmother's side of the family, for which I run a family website.

I am also a big sports fan, most especially ice hockey, football (particularly college football and the Florida Gators), baseball, tennis, and golf. I also like to hit the Rollins gym in an effort to keep in shape. Rebekah and I also like to hike.

When I get the chance to read for pleasure, and "pleasure" is not defined broadly as reading the latest book about neuroscience or consciousness, I read science fiction. For a long time that meant books by Isaac Asimov and only books by Isaac Asimov, but lately I've been broadening my science fiction library.

I also have become passionate about chess since about 2000. I can't say I've gotten to be a very strong player, but I like to try to learn the subtleties of the game and I'm eager to find some like-level players. The chess section tends to be the first section of a bookstore to which I head.
