Esztergom Cathedral

Esztergom Cathdral

The majestic and awe-inspiring nineteenth-century Esztergom Cathedral towers above the city.  St. Stephen (István) was baptized and crowned in Esztergom. Despite the city's total destruction during the Mongol invasion, it was rebuilt and today is still the seat of the archbishop of Hungary. Inside, among the objects of great interest are the crypt, the treasury, and the Bakócz red marble chapel (1506-1507) with a white marble altar by Andrea Ferrucci (1519).
