Privatization of water opposed
Vancouver Anglocan Churches are opposed to the appropriation of water by private companies. At the urging of the Peace and Justice Committee, Synod declared that fresh water was “a shared legacy, a public trust and a collective responsibility,” and stated opposition to water supply privatization or inclusion under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
The committee gave a presentation of personal witness from the Rev. Kevin Dixon, chair of the Stewardship Development Committee, and Matthew Stephens of St. Philip’s Dunbar. They then led Synod through an exercise to provide a framework for parishes to elicit and understand the values, interests, and talents of their members. The exercise is available on-line at www. vancouver.anglican.ca or through the office at 604.684.6306x227 (Paige Dampier, Parish Ministry Facilitator).
