Budapest: The towers of the Great Synagogue

The domes of the Great Synagogue

The two characteristic towers mark the Great Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe.  It was constructed between 1854 and 1859 by the Viennese architect Ludwig Förster in the Byzantine-Moorish (Spanish) style, popular at the time. The red and yellow brick patterns of the exterior are enhanced by rich ornamental ceramic decorations.
