Visegrád: View from the ramparts of the castle

View from the walls of the castle

The castle at Visegrád was erected by king Bela IV to prevent another disaster like the one caused by the Mongol raid of 1241.  Very little remains of the magnificent palace which once stood surrounded by these mighty walls; it was destroyed during the Turkish occupation.  Visitors can get a glimpse of the past by looking at exhibits that show life and work in and around the castle.
